The Green Life Shichirin Konro is the ultimate Japanese charcoal grill for travel, picnics, or small apartment balconies! The steel construction makes it lighter weight than a ceramic grill, while genius engineering keeps the outside of the grill from getting hot. Two removable handles allow for easy removal of the grill's interior, so it can be cleaned properly. The grate can also be mounted on these handles to raise it further above the charcoal, and skewers can even be mounted diagonally in the holes in the side of the grill for a slower cook.

  • Heat-resistant legs allow for use on any surface.
  • Charcoal produces a lot of carbon monoxide. Only use outside, or in a professional ventilated kitchen.
  • This grill is not stainless steel, so store it indoors when not in use.
  • The cooking surface is 35cm x 21cm ( 14" x 8.5")

About Konro Grills - The Japanese word “konro” indicates any heat source used for cooking. A konro barbecue is a special kind of Japanese grill that is generally long and narrow enough that the yakitori skewers can rest on the walls of the box and not fall into the coals below. There are also wider versions to accommodate larger pieces of meat, like a ribeye steak. Konro Grills are also often paired with Binchotan charcoal, which you can read about here.

  • Charcoal gives off carbon monoxide. Use it only where there is enough ventilation. Never use indoors.
  • The bottom of Konro will become extremely hot. Do not use it on carpets or tatami mats. Use only on a fireproof surface.
  • Do not move the Konro while using it.
  • Do not leave the Konro unattended while using it.
  • Do not leave children unattended with a hot Konro.
  • Make sure the fire is completely extinguished after use.
  • The metal parts will get hot. Use caution when handling.
  • The metal parts can be sharp and cause scrape or cuts. Be cautious when handling
  • Traditional Konros are ceramic. When dropped or banged, it can break. 
  • Metal Konros can rust, so don't leave them uncovered outdoors.
  • Never pour water into the Konro to put out the fire. This will cause the Konro to break.
  • Store in a weatherproof area, do not leave outdoors. Avoid extreme humidity.
  • Use the Konro on a flat and level surface.
  • If the Konro gets wet, it will not work as well as it should. Let the Konro dry completely before the next use.

Perfect for beginners

"Purchased this great little grill about a month ago and have used it twice between snow storms in April. Im using a mix of Ogatan and Shirozumi Charcoal and getting good cook times for our use. The first time we cooked Yakitori skewers - Negima, Momo, Kawa, Tsukune, Hatsu, Sunagimo and tried some grilled Mackerel fillets. Second time we tried our hand with Chinese Xinjiang Lamb Skewers. Both times very successful cooks and easy to clean up afterwards. Even saving a little bit of the unused Charcoal for next time by dunking them into water. (Having a metal bucket full of water beside the grill is a must!) Once the source of heat is gone the design of the unit cools down quickly within 15 mins to the point where it can be handled. Inner box that holds the coals comes out with the provided handles and ash can be cleaned up. We just wipe down the rest with a damp cloth and remove any caramelized Tare. Easily goes back into its box for next time. Perfect size for my family of 3 and we can't wait to try taking it camping this summer."

"I live in Sooke on the Island and phoned several times a few weeks ago because I was interested in the shichirin grill. I talked to 3 different people and they were all very helpful and took the time and patience to answer my questions. My son picked it up for me as well as a donabe clay pot with book. Perfect camping and picnic grill

"This konro is a wonder. The height adjust is a nice feature and can be managed using tongs wile cooking. The single vent on the medium sized model is very effective, as the base plate for the coals is vented as well. The medium is a good yakitori size for 2-3 people. Construction feels solid and it cleans up easily. Tue sides don't get too hot when in use and the width of the top edge and heat is such that handling skewer ends is comfortable."
