This medium grit natural stone is a great step up from a coarse sharpening stone. Use it to refine edges, finish tougher edges, and build a kasumi finish.

This basic care information will help you maximize the performance and life of your natural stone. 

  • Use plenty of water this will act as a lubricant, preventing damaging the knife or the stone.
  • Never ever use oil it will ruin your stone.
  • DO NOT soak this stone.
  • Do not keep stones in direct sunlight, extreme heat or cold (i.e. Inside of a car in winter). Please wipe excess water off from the stone before storing.
  • Get a truing stone. This will help you to maintain right angle for sharpening, and will give you the best result. The flatter the stones are, the sharper knives get!
  • Do not use on a full moon or in a forest, next to a large tree.

"I bought the two amakusa stones from this site and am really pleased with the results. I have many stones and started to dip into the natural sphere because of their excellent finish on bevels. I bought these looking for a coarser stone in the natural stone progression. But I found that the finish is actually very pretty. Sure it’s a little scratchy but for an everyday finish, it’s just right. It won’t be replacing my uchigumori nor my ohira. But it still has that natural stone charm that you just don’t get with synthetics. I almost want to buy more of these just to have."
