This little portable grill is perfect for taking on picnics and grilling snacks for 2-4 people.

About Konro Grills The Japanese word “konro” indicates any heat source used for cooking. A konro barbecue is a special kind of Japanese grill that is generally long and narrow enough that the yakitori skewers can rest on the walls of the box and not fall into the coals below. There are also wider versions to accommodate larger pieces of meat, like a ribeye steak. Konro Grills are also often paired with Binchotan charcoal, which you can read about here.

  • Charcoal gives off carbon monoxide. Use it only where there is enough ventilation. Never use indoors.
  • The bottom of Konro will become extremely hot. Do not use it on carpets or tatami mats. Use only on a fireproof surface.
  • Do not move the Konro while using it.
  • Do not leave the Konro unattended while using it.
  • Do not leave children unattended with a hot Konro.
  • Make sure the fire is completely extinguished after use.
  • The metal parts will get hot. Use caution when handling.
  • The metal parts can be sharp and cause scrape or cuts. Be cautious when handling
  • Traditional Konros are ceramic. When dropped or banged, it can break. 
  • Metal Konros can rust, so don't leave them uncovered outdoors.
  • Never pour water into the Konro to put out the fire. This will cause the Konro to break.
  • Store in a weatherproof area, do not leave outdoors. Avoid extreme humidity.
  • Use the Konro on a flat and level surface.
  • If the Konro gets wet, it will not work as well as it should. Let the Konro dry completely before the next use.

Favourite BBQ to bring for camping

"We used 4pieces of ogatan charcoal from knifewear and It last for 6 hours. It keeps us warm at the camping site and our foods were perfectly cooked. The slow cooking BBQ gave us the time to enjoy the moment without worrying about the meat being overcook. Its easy to carry. The downside about the Konro, its that its easy to break."

Got this bbq for my

"Got this bbq for my as a gift for my boyfriend. I thought it would be small, but it is the perfect size for 2-3 people. He have used it twice and we are in love with its perfomance. It takes some time for the charcoal to get it going, but once it is lit, it sears meat and veggies in no time. Food tastes amazing and we cant get enough. Cant wait to have another bbq session. It is a lot of fun to cook in it and take our time to enjoy our meal. Definitely recommend this product."

"Great little grill for two people. Practiced a bit with cheaper charcoal lumps before trying the Japanese coals. It’s fun to sit around for hours and cook with this konro. Glad I took the advice from other reviews and ordered the replacement grill as the one it came with is flimsy."

Impressed by the size and price

"Perfect size for 2-3 people as a lightweight, compact tabletop grill, we were able to eat at a good pace. We used the smaller size binchotan charcoal and it created a very authentic flavour similar to restaurants in japan and better than most restaurants in Toronto, very impressed! The round grill top that came with the grill was too flimsy, I recommend replacing it with the knife war rectangular grills, SO much sturdier. Order process was seamless and item arrived within a few days (I live in Toronto)."

Great little grill

"Great little grill! Bought as a gift for my husband. We’ve only used once but it worked very well. I’d recommend also getting the large tweezer tongs, sturdier grill top, chimney starter, and binchotan charcoal (being in the US I wasn’t able to order it from here, but I found similar online elsewhere). Planning to upgrade the grill in the future but this is a great start for newbie Konro folks. Very happy with my Knifewear order—packed very well and arrived quickly. Quality all seems top notch."

Does the bottom get really hot? im wondering if i could use it on a wooden table or on my wooden deck. Wanted to know if that might be a fire hazard. Thank you!
Hey there! They get hot, but not scorching so you should be fine. if you're concerned you can always through a plank or sheet pan underneath, but they're not a fire hazard unless knocked over.
I am new to using a product like this. Do you have to light the charcoal elsewhere and transfer to it, or can you light it directly in the grill? Thanks!
Hi there, Either way will work but I find it much easier to light my charcoal in a chimney starter and then dumping that in to my grill. You can do it by building a fire in the grill but this can be difficult as room is fairly limited and they aren't always best suited to do this. Alex
