The ultimate way to keep your cutting board in place! While I love a wet rag, they can get mouldy if left too long and can warp wooden boards. The Hasegawa non-slip mat keeps your cutting board safely locked in place, so you can focus on your mise en place. It's also great for holding bowls hands-free while adding oil to aoli, stopping fish from sliding around while you fillet them, and even for gripping stubborn jar lids.

About Hasegawa - Originally a manufacturer of skis, Hasegawa was started in 1955 in Chiba, Japan. Their desire to create the best possible skis drove them to innovate techniques of adhering a plastic coating over a wood core, which eventually led to their world-famous cutting boards treasured by chefs and knifenerds worldwide.

Expensive, but they work

"Very expensive, but very useful. I find this small size to be the most versatile -- stabilizing a whetstone, filleting a fish on a rock, opening a pesky jar, etc. Two small mats can be used for large cutting boards of different sizes/dimensions, and they're easy to clean. Stickiness reduces slightly over time, but not enough to significantly impact performance or usability. I begrudgingly recommend."

Beats a damp rag

"These are sooo sticky. They even stick when wet. I used to put a damp rag under my board in my home kitchen but then I wouldn’t have it handy for cleanup. These are an excellent sanitary solution. Check the size. They are small. I had to get a second one to stabilize my board."

Non slip matt

"I wish it was a little bigger to fit my 16 by 20 Paderno butchery block from Canadian Tire. I will be purchasing a second one before March"

Slippery surface, poor stability

"I bought this Hasegawa FPEL Pro-PE Lite Cutting Board (Black, 360 x 200 x 18 mm) in July 2025 and have been using it actively for several months. First of all, the size I chose turned out to be too small. 360×200 mm looks fine on paper, but in real use it’s uncomfortable. I strongly recommend getting a larger one. Now to the main issue - the surface is very slippery. It’s slippery both dry and wet, and the board itself slides around the countertop quite a lot. I find it annoying to work on. I own other cutting boards from Japan, the US, and Denmark, so I have some points of comparison - and this one is definitely the most unstable. On the positive side, it’s completely dishwasher safe. The color and texture stayed perfect after many washes. No complaints there. However, that slipperiness is a major drawback. I’d deduct two stars just for that and rate it 3 out of 5. Now I understand why Hasegawa sells a separate Non-Slip Mat for these boards… but honestly, I don’t want to assemble and disassemble a sandwich of board + mat every time I cook and wash dishes. Why not just integrate the non-slip base into the board itself? Would I buy it again? Definitely not. Also, mine is the heavier Pro-PE version - I can only imagine how much the soft type would slide around the kitchen. So keep this in mind before buying."

Buy 2

"The mat works great, but buy 2 if you are using them with cutting boards. That way you can support larger cutting boards without them tipping."

Worth it!

"Definitely helped with the light weight board"

Solid option, but slippery

"I love end grain wooden boards but use plastic boards for raw animal protein. When my inexpensive plastic board became too warped, I decided to splurge for a Hasegawa. I love the look, weight, rigidity, and feel of the board, but it is noticeably more "slippery" on my countertop than my old cheap plastic board. I bought the Hasegawa anti-slip mat as well, so it's not a problem and if you don't want to buy the mat, a damp piece of paper towel underneath the board will work too. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the purchase."

The ultimate nonslip mat

"Does exactly what it's supposed to do. Very pleased with this purchase."
