Kaginushi Kogyo was heavily affected by the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake and is still rebuilding. We hope to have their grills in stock in 2026. Join our mailing list to find out when they're back!

Around here barbecue season means pulling out the konro grill and doing up some yakitori and other treats. This little guy is meant for 2-3 people!

About Konro Grills The Japanese word “konro” indicates any heat source used for cooking. A konro barbecue is a special kind of Japanese grill that is generally long and narrow enough that the yakitori skewers can rest on the walls of the box and not fall into the coals below. There are also wider versions to accommodate larger pieces of meat, like a ribeye steak. Kaginushi Kogyo konro grills are uniquely made from diatomite sediment found in Japan's Noto peninsula, Ishikawa, and Hokkaido. This material is ground, mixed with water, molded, and baked into blocks. You can read more them here.

Konro Grills are also often paired with Binchotan charcoal, which you can read about here.

Loving My Konro

"I’ve been eyeing this konro for several years but didn’t have the chance to pick one up. Thanks to a recent trip to the Edmonton store and a great bundle price, I finally brought one home. Such excellent advice from the expert in store! It’s been so fun trying different foods and we love the charcoal. Highly recommend and the size is just right. Meat cooks fast and we can reuse the charcoal. Delicious!"

Q&A

When is any of the konro grills going to be back in stock?
Hey there! We're hoping to see these grills by, hopefully, the end of the month (May 2021). The best way to stay informed about them would be to pop your email into the "notify me when available" section on their product page and we'll email you when they're ready to go. I don't have any firm date right now, but it's just a matter of time!
1. Who is the maker of this grill? 2. What is the weight of this grill (KGBQ-8F)? 3. What is the material of the white walls and black edges?
Hey there, No worries. 1. It is made by Kaginushi Kogyo 2. The weight of the grill is 12kg. 3. The walls are made from diatomaceous earth and the edges are aluminium. - Let me know if you have any other questions! - Ellie
Love my new grill. I was wondering if anyone has tried to modify their grill by adding a small grate to the bottom to lift the coal off the floor and increase airflow. Seems like it might hyper charge things. Thoughts?
Hey there, Glad you're loving your new grill! I think that idea would work great. I've heard of some people propping their coals up with foil but that doesn't seem like it would do much for airflow. I am sure that there is a better way/material that would make both airflow and proximity to the coals better. All in all, I think that is a great idea if you want your grill to be hotter. Alex
