The Green Life Shichirin Konro is the ultimate Japanese charcoal grill for travel, picnics, or small apartment balconies! The steel construction makes it lighter weight than a ceramic grill, while genius engineering keeps the outside of the grill from getting hot. Two removable handles allow for easy removal of the grill's interior, so it can be cleaned properly. The grate can also be mounted on these handles to raise it further above the charcoal, and skewers can even be mounted diagonally in the holes in the side of the grill for a slower cook.

  • Heat-resistant legs allow for use on any surface.
  • Charcoal produces a lot of carbon monoxide. Only use outside, or in a professional ventilated kitchen.
  • This grill is not stainless steel, so store it indoors when not in use.
  • The cooking surface is 40cm x 25cm (16" x 10")

About Konro Grills - The Japanese word “konro” indicates any heat source used for cooking. A konro barbecue is a special kind of Japanese grill that is generally long and narrow enough that the yakitori skewers can rest on the walls of the box and not fall into the coals below. There are also wider versions to accommodate larger pieces of meat, like a ribeye steak. Konro Grills are also often paired with Binchotan charcoal, which you can read about here.

  • The metal parts can be sharp and cause scrape or cuts. Be cautious when handling
  • Traditional Konros are ceramic. When dropped or banged, it can break.
  • Metal Konros can rust, so don't leave them uncovered outdoors.
  • Never pour water into the Konro to put out the fire. This will cause the Konro to break.
  • Store in a weatherproof area, do not leave outdoors. Avoid extreme humidity.

Great tabletop Yaki grill!

"Went to Japan, and this grill perfectly mimics what I saw in the Izakaya style restaurants for me at home. I bought this and used the proper charcoal, which burned super clean and very hot. Highly recommend for picnics and cooking for about 8-12 (several rounds of skewers, 45min-1hr)."

This excellent little yakitori grill

"This excellent little yakitori grill is perfect. Easily cleaned, the outside stays cool, while providing serious heat. Lightweight and easily stored, use it anywhere (with proper ventilation). With the right binto it's pretty much smokeless."

Burns hot!

"Great bbqing experience. Got some great customer support during the purchasing process. Got some great tips on how to get it going and what I should be doing since this is the first time I’ve used charcoals. The Japanese charcoal was much better than the Canadian tire stuff I mixed in with it. Cooked for 10 people, no problem."

Yakitori on a Budget

"So before buying this grill I was going back and forth between buying this grill and the authentic ceramic konro grill that is 2-2. 5x more expensive than this grill. Beware that this might be a lengthy review for good reasons. I will be going over the 3 criteria's whenever I review products. . . 1. Form 2. Function 3. Quality With that being said let's jump into this grill. Form wise this grill is definitely one of the better grills I have acquired. This is no Big Green Egg or Traeger (Two different machines) but this thing is in its own category when compared to other charcoal grills I have used. Now when it comes to functionality this grill absolutely amazed me! I'm no yakitori expert but I have went into the Yakitori rabbit hole on how various grills work and what types of charcoal to use, I will say that this grill is super super easy to use and has features that are heavily looked over. I used this grill for a camping trip and for one evening of cooking all I needed was one box of Ogatan Charcoal to fill the grill. There was enough charcoal in the box to refill the grill if needed. This grill is really good at applying direct heat to anything that you are cooking, once things are hot this grill starts ripping. Something I loved about this grill was that insulation wise the bottom never got hot! You would think after firing up the Ogatan the grill would have heat transfer to the bottom, but due to the two piece design the outer casing remained warm to the touch and not like some oven element. Another feature I loved was that when using the Ogatan there was little to no ash being dispersed in the air whenever I fanned the coals to get the temps higher, this alone sold me. Being so used to using lump charcoal I dislike the smoke and ash that flys up whenever you grill. The last feature that was amazing was that when cleaning up this grill the vents on the side of the inner piece do a great job at holding all the ash from the Ogatan, all I had to do was shake and tilt the compartment that held the charcoal. I don't plan on using this grill with lump charcoal at all. Sticking to Ogatan and Binchotan. Lastly Quality. I've only used this grill once so I can't really critique with accuracy here. But what I can say so far is that I can tell the quality of this grill is up there. When I was cleaning I realized that the materials used creating this grill withstood high temperatures and nothing failed. If I were to bet on what parts of the grill would fail over time I would bet that the grilling grate would likely fail before anything else. Simply cause thats the piece you will be cleaning the most and depending on how you clean up after cooking it may or may not develop gunk and rust over time. Form I give this grill a 5/5 Function 5/5, If they made a ceramic charcoal in lay that would be wild Quality 5/5 I do plan on buying one of those larger steel yakitori grills called the BinchoGrill for at home grilling. But if you're just starting out like me definitely buy this grill :)"

Amazing Grill

"Great construction. Love how easy it was to assemble. For such a light weight konro it feels extremely durable!"

Great little grill, great team in Vancouver

"I'm really happy with this grill. It stays cool to the touch on the exterior casing and the interior section is easy to pop out and clean. I'm new to charcoal, so I'm still playing around with different types of coals and the best way to get them going and setting them up in the grill, but the heat distribution is great once you're rolling and will only take a few sessions to figure it out if you're also new to charcoal like me. I've also had no issues with heat leaking out to the surface of the wood picnic table I've been using it on top of. The surface size is also great. I was able to get maybe 8-10 skewers going at once. On another occasion I had at least 4-5 full chicken thighs going at the same time. I haven't tried it yet, but you could probably fit 3 medium or 2 large-ish steaks at once. The team at the Vancouver location has also been super helpful and easy to talk to - they even took my call on a Saturday afternoon to answer some of my questions. It's great to be able to talk to someone in the shop who actually has a ton of experience using the same grill. I really appreciate that they only sell a couple different grills - they stand behind the products they sell and really know how to use them. Overall, this little grill has made my journey into making yakitori a lot of fun and I'm looking forward perfecting my tare, working with different parts of the chicken, and getting better and better with this grill this summer."

Really nice charcoal grill

"I bought this for my little pop up restaurant and for bbq at my backyards, it’s really good for all types of grilling!"

Joochan P. (5/5)

Does the thing

"It works well, stays cool on the outside, is light weight. Love it. Doesn’t take up the space of a full size bbq."

Deron D. (5/5)

Konro grill for Camping

"This is my first Konro style grill. Selected this one because it is relatively light weight for camping. First impressions were not good. Seems quite flimsy, cheap plastic feet came broken. Grill is very light duty. I have not used it yet so there is hope for performance and durability."
