The TOJIRO BASIC is a super stripped-down high-performance knife, including only the most basic components needed to blow your mind with every cut. A blade fashioned from VG10 stainless steel ensures crazy sharpness and next-level edge retention, while the super-basic handle is durable, comfortable, and nothing else. While I’m a bit of a magpie for flashy knives, I have to appreciate how unapologetically simple this knife is. With no distractions, you can focus on the joy of cutting and cooking your favourite foods for you and your loved ones. Maximalism be damned, I love this knife!
About the Shape - This is also a multi purpose knife, but with a slight vegetable bias. Santoku means 'Three Virtues' or 'To solve Three Problems'. The virtues or problems are slicing, dicing and mincing. Santoku is usually found in 160mm - 190mm lengths. These are more and more popular in Western kitchens due to the unique shape and smaller easy to handle size.

"Excellent knife. Great beginner entry knife to the world of Japanese knives"
"Handy, good grip, all in one for home kitchen. Absolutely love it"
"I really love this knife. I have small hands so I don’t always find a comfortable knife but this one is great"
"Amazing knife"
"Got this for my mother for Christmas. My brother decided to try it out on his arm hair, cut them off in one slice. He’s done this with other knives before, he’s said this never cut so cleanly before. We cleaned it off afterwards and it cuts watermelons just as good. And for the price it’s awesome."
"We ordered our knives almost 3 weeks ago as Christmas gifts. Still have not received. Purolator issues. Product is great but delivery poor. Knives are of no use if you don't get them. Have called for help - all we get is apologies from both Knifewear and Purolator. Unfortunate."
"Man I love this knife. I don't really know much about them but as an entry point this is perfect. I wish the sheath came free with it though."
"Good knife"
"I was considering the tojiro DP for quite awhile and the tojiro basic being released was exciting because it has many of the same great characteristics as the tojiro dp at an even better price. After a few months of using this thing, I still love it. The thin blade, sharpness out of the box, and handle quality are all a huge upgrade to my past stainless steel knives."
"I've really been enjoying using the whole Basic lineup - they cut well, and are priced great! In fact, they're a perfect present if you're hoping to gift a knife as a gateway into Japanese steel, and don't want to splurge on a Tsunehisa Juroko. And for the new user, a Santoku is often synonymous with a Japanese knife. Of the line, the Santoku is probably my least favourite, however. The Nakiri does a better job on peppers, onions, apples - daily kids lunch prep or dinner prep. The Gyuto gives a bit of extra length that's super useful if slicing meat or tackling larger items, and the Petty is, well, a petty knife. If I was only buying one, it would be the Nakiri. That said, this is a light, compact knife that truly deserves consideration, especially if you (or the recipient of your gift) really prefer the Santoku shape. I've gifted a couple and they've been VERY well received."
