A must-have accessory for beginner sharpeners, this sharpening clip takes the guesswork out of the job! The thicker end holds larger gyutos, santokus, and nakiris at roughly 15 degrees, while the narrow side works well for pettys and other small knives. The ceramic angle guide stands up well to abrasive stones and allows you to focus on refining your edge without distractions.

  • Excellent for Japanese knives. If used on western blades, it will create a thinner edge that will dull quickly.
  • Only for double-bevel blades like gyutos, santokus, nakiris, and petties. Do not use for single bevel yanagibas, usubas, or debas.
  • The thinner side can be used for taller blades to create an extremely fine edge.

TOGRIP

"I find the angle for bigger Japanese knives to be too shallow and makes a large bevel. If you have a reasonable grasp on sharpening angles through muscle memory, I’d avoid this tool as perseverance will reward you."

Nice

"I’m still learning how to use this but so far it’s been ok the angles can be awkward when using this but I know it’s probably due to me being a novice but it’s a nice tool just still figuring out how to use it."

Q&A

What angle does the narrow side sharpen to?
Hey, The clip is designed to sharpen at a 15 degree angle on both sides. There is a wider opening on one side to accommodate the thicker spine on taller blades (gyuto, nakriri etc.) and a more narrow opening on the other so that your blades with thinner spines fit snugly (petty etc.). If you put a taller blade in the narrow opening the angle will vary based on the height of the blade but it'll be under 10 degrees.
Does it matter which side of the clip you use? Do they have different angles?
It does matter - the big side of the clip is for big knives like a chef's knife or gyuto, and the small side is designed for smaller knife like a paring or petty.
